March 15, 2013 –- Layers of Backbends
There are easy backbends, and there are difficult ones. They all extend the spine, but with the support of different layers of muscles. Some poses are just not accessible unless we can reach the deeper muscle layers. But, as backbends of all kinds extend the spine, they all convey similar benefits to our internal organs, especially the heart, lungs and brain. There are also many psychological benefits, such as optimism, light-heartedness and mental energy. This workshop is accessible to all levels of experience—each pose can be performed in a way that may challenge us, but not overwhelm.
